Why You Need Anti-Fatigue Matting

Why do you need anti-fatigue matting?
We have created an animated explainer video which illustrates the dangers of standing at work for long periods on hard floor surfaces. The video explains what Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are and how prolonged periods of time standing up can lead to such conditions. The video gives more information on the problem of MSDs in the workplace, and summarises some simple preventative measures that can be taken to reduce the risks, including the introduction of anti-fatigue floor mats.

Research acquired from the European Survey on Working Conditions / European Agency for Safety and Health at Work found that across the EU:

  • Approximately 20% of workers suffer with muscular pain
  • Approximately 25% suffer from back pain
  • Approximately 45% complain of working in tiring or painful positions

These conditions are called MSDs, and they are the most common work related health conditions within the EU. It has been estimated that 50% of the population could be affected by the year 2030.

Why do we need to take precautions?
Aches and pains can get worse over time if not addressed. Fatigue from standing can cause more serious problems than many of us ever realise. Muscular pain and circulation problems are just a couple of ailments that are highlighted in the video. Tiredness and pain can lead to concentration lapses and as a consequence, result in accidents within the workplace, which in severe cases, can even lead to loss of life.

How to prevent MSDs?
In the video there are simple steps shown that employers can take to prevent MSDs and answer the question ‘what is an anti-fatigue mat’? Anti-fatigue matting can greatly reduce the risks of regular excessive standing in the workplace, by providing underfoot cushioning and promoting subtle foot movement.
